I agree that dropping cards is an effective way to gain an audience. It will attract new readers even if they initially were not interested in the actual blog.

The new E system works great, I think. As far as Jaz's comment about it being unlikely to get an ad on a popular blog, did you have a chance before? The system was so skewed that no one could possibly get into their ad queue unless they were really lucky. Now you can at least buy a space if you are willing to pay for it.

You can still earn a lot of EC in one month, right? Something like 9,000 EC. I'm sure some of the more popular blogs will come down in price. If you want, you could even sell something of value in the E shop. This could bring in some much needed credits too.

BTW, if you need help saving money, I have a blog for you. ;)

@turnip: I agree with what you say about people setting up recipro-lists just to drive traffic to their own fake blogs. I made a list of the "reciprodroppers" listed on "Chalk Is Cheap" before he shut down and I've been dropping on them. I've discovered that I'm only getting about half of those drops reciprocated and many of those blogs never update. I've started refusing to drop on blogs that haven't updated their content since the last time I was there. If they go too long without updating, I'll stop checking altogether.

Yeah, I think the power of 2 thing is a bit too extreme. a lot of the less trafficked blogs are now getting 1024 for advertising. It is a little nuts. I don't advertise that much anymore because of the system change.

Like everything else of this nature, most people will just stay long enough to drop their cards and be gone. However, you can pick up a few new readers that way.

My big objection to the new system of selling ads is that for those who do not have a bazzillion ec right now cannot get onto those really popular sites because at no time are they going to have their price down to something the newbie or non-saver and non-buyer of ec can afford. And, for the record, I have no intentions of buying ec just to get enough to pay out for a one day ad even on the popular blogs. IMHO, it's a waste of money.

Thanks for the post on Entrecard's newest game plan. :)

These are topics I've covered before on posts. Showing the drops you got from someone in the last 30 days was suggested by myself in developer chat for exactly the reasons you state. I was dropping 90 cards a month on some deadbeats who never dropped one on me.

Reciprocating lists are really scam lists for the owner to sneak all their fake blogs into.

Traditionally, a 125x125 ad returns about 1 click in about 1000 page views. Why do you think entrecard is any different? Other than people clicking their own ads to make their site look good, or widget surfers, it isn't different.

Obviously dropping cards is still important, but an even better strategy is to write good content and leave meaningful comments on other sites.
