PhD in my mailbox today

Is it karma?  I mentioned that I had a shiny degree in yesterday’s post.  Today, when I checked my mail with my son, we discovered a mailing tube from my (now) alma mater.  I also received a letter from the registrar.  Here are my observations:

1.  They print doctoral degrees on larger paper than bachelor’s degrees.  I wonder if this is a plot by framing companies, since I would have to pay more money if I want to frame it.  I also realized today that I have no idea where my bachelor’s degree or high school diploma are.

2.  For the first time, I received something that was signed in ink from the registrar.

3.  The letter from the registrar assured that the ribbon for use in framing my diploma would be in the mailing tube with the diploma.  I was really worried about that!

4.  There was no ribbon in the mailing tube with my diploma.

Thanks Bill! I have to agree that it is huge – it took 9 years from start to finish (this includes maternity leave and a leave of absence). I’m glad that it is finally over :)

The really cool thing about school, at least for me, is I enjoy it a lot but get very weary…until I’m out, then I want to go back again!

I can’t decide if I want to get a Masters in Econ or a teaching credential, or learn CSS and HTML…so many opportunities, so little time.

    Bill,

I agree that there are so many opportunities to take advantage of – I’m currently enrolled in another program for medical transcription; it’s a back-up plan so that I can stay at home with the kid while looking for an online teaching position.

One thing that I have become better at is looking at the opportunity cost these days – everything seems to be such a balancing act these days!

    Thanks for responding.
