Need to recycle those packing peanuts?
We were cleaning out the basement this weekend, and had a lot of packing peanuts that we wanted to get rid of. Throwing these out makes me feel guilty, as I know they take a long time to decompose in a landfill.
A quick google search helped us come up with a solution, and I just wanted to share the link. The Plastic Loose Fill Council has over 1500 collection sites in the US – you just need to fill out an online form to find the collection site nearest to you. Hope this helps someone out!

I probably shouldn’t admit to this, but, since I live in a rural area where nobody cares if I burn trash (as long as it isn’t a windy day),some of those Styrofoam peanuts have accidentally found their way into the incinerator.

I had no idea there was such a thing. Thanks for posting about the site. I too feel guilty putting them in the garbage, and usually save them up and use them in the bottom of planting containers or whatever as drainage. But they do get out of hand don’t they as they come in everything that is shipped. Enjoy the Green It Carnival

Chris – You’re welcome! I also ran out of uses for these things; I can only hope that these won’t be produced much longer as better alternatives become available.
I have donated them to day care or school for art class.
That’s a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
Have you tried any of the http://www.lbri.com products? Their peanuts just melt when mixed with water. Kinda cool concept. More companies should use them.

Wow! That is cool. I didn’t see anything on the lbri page, but I did do a google search and found more information. What a great alternative – I agree that more companies need to use them.
after i’ve saved a big garbage bag full of these nasty ol’ things, i just take them to my local kinkos/fedex/shipping place and offer to donate them, i’ve never been refused
