Lucky,

Oh how I wish I had known about this when writing my thesis! I would have put them out of business with the free refills :)

I might have to go check out an actual Starbucks store sometime - I haven't been in one in years! Thanks for the info, and for taking the time to comment!

I'll give you another reason to spend $5 at Starbucks... I was turned off of Starbucks about 8 years ago when I was on the road and bought a cup of the most bitter coffee I have ever tasted.
I am also not one to buy one of their fancy orange mocha grandee frapachinos or whatever they call them because they are really sweet, high in calories and crazy expensive.
I gained a lot of respect for Starbucks though as a marketer when they came out with their new site www.mystarbucksidea.com. I thought it was genius that they can promote their brand, start a conversation with their fans and have everybody else do their market research for them.
Because of this, I decided to give them another try. I went to a Starbucks to do some work and have a coffee. The free work zone made the price of a coffee well worthwhile. When I was there, I found out that if I signed up for the rewards program I would have free internet access for 2 hours per day as long as some activity was done on my card within 30 days. I bought a $5 rewards card, got a coffee for a buck and change (which was a little better than I remembered it) and started surfing the net. It turned out that as a rewards member, I got free refills too making each cup cheaper and cheaper. I went home happy that day.
The real kicker was that I got a postcard from them in the mail the next week saying that as a rewards member, I can redeem the card for a free drink of my choice at any Starbucks location.
So i got free internet, free refills and a free drink of my choice all for $5. Who said Starbucks was expensive?? I would have splurged for $10.

I'm glad to see that it is a rare occasion for most others as well! Although it was really good, I think that I would prefer treating myself to a bag of Starbucks coffee at the grocery store and brewing it at home. It was a lifesaver on the road though!

Star Bucks is ok...I've always thought it was overpriced and I think I get it maybe once or twice a year. And I always get a small drink, because the stuff I like is almost always too sweet to drink in large quantities! I had a mint frappucino about a month ago and I can't remember the last time before that. I usually go to Tim Horton's if I'm needing a coffee based drink...I can get my iced cappuccino for much cheaper there!

tiffanie's last blog post..there's more to a job than the money

For me, Starbucks is a rare indulgence. I absolutely love it. But out here in Far Western Suburbia, the nearest Starbucks is a 3 gallon round trip away.

Rare indulgence.

(I’m not sure what it is called in Starbucks language, but I said “really big”, and the girl knew what I meant)

LOL! I try not to go there too often because of the hole it burns in my wallet, but I do like some of their stuff. Passion tea lemonade, yum!
